Transport Manager

Our client is currently recruiting a Transport Manager. This is a fantastic oportunity for an enthusiastic manager to lead, motivate and develop a steady team. This is also an oportunity for someone to change the overall transport operation by putting together new ideas and enhancing the overall effeciency.

Job purpose-

To plan, direct and coordinate the smooth efficient running of the day to day transport operation activities

  • Organise, plan and manage the day to day transport operation
  • Manage the budgeted costs for the department on an on-going basis
  • Managing the despatch operation from production to the customer
  • Working with suppliers and customers, planning routes and scheduling deliveries to ensure goods meet destination on time and in a cost efficient way
  • Monitor operational systems and schedules and implement cost effective routes or changes to processes to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Ensure company compliance is maintained in line with transport legislation and procedures e.g. tachographs
  • Manage the ongoing maintenance of all transport fleet vehicles, ensure drivers complete safety checks and complete paperwork. Weekly checks to be conducted.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date administration records
  • Develop strong customer relationships to ensure issues are resolved
  • Minimise disruption and resolve unscheduled delays
  • Liaise with external haulage company to resolve issues and ensure high standards of customer service is maintained

Desirable Qualifications

  • HGV Class 1 Licence
  • Third level qualification

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience and knowledge of the food industry
  • Budget management experience

 Essential Qualifications

  • CPC Licence
  • National & International Freight Licence
  • Full clean driving licence

 

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 3 years supervisory/management experience
  • Previous experience in FMCG environment
  • Solid understanding of transport regulations
  • Good Geographical knowledge of NI,GB
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Attention to detail
  • Report writing
  • Customer Service focused
  • Ability to meet deadlines in pressurised environment
  • Think logically and make quick decisions
  • Planning and time management
  • Be proficient with Excel and other IT packages
  • Be flexible in the working day, evening and weekend
