Technologist (Ruby)

The Company

Our client are Belfast based IT Solutions company developing technically complex and responsive solutions.  Strongly established within Northern Ireland, they have an excellent reputation in their sector.

The Role

The Technologist provides technical leadership across portfolios of projects and influences technical direction of Division. They will be responsible for the architecture, design and technical ownership of a platform, using Ruby as a primary language and the Rails Framework in Web Development.  The technologist will support technical skills development within the Division.

• Analyses highly complex system and technical issues to implement technologies that align with strategic technical direction.

• Works with the Project Manager to create and monitor project plans, ensuring technical aspects of the project are delivered.

• Provides technical consultancy to the project teams, identifying, mitigating and resolving technical issues.

• Acts as solution engineer responsible for the implementation of approved technologies that align with technical architecture, business plans and long term strategy.

• Makes recommendations to improve process efficiency and effectiveness; provides input to major architectural designs to ensure consistency, security, maintainability and flexibility with respect to overall system, technical and product architectures within a domain or portfolio.

• Guides the development of system, technical and product standards based on business plan and vision.  In coordination with Architecture, researches and makes recommendations around new technologies

• Mentors staff to develop software systems development capabilities.

The Person

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in technical discipline

• A minimum of 3 years recent relevant technical experience at a senior level, at least 2 of which should be at Principal level or above, with a proven track record of providing technical leadership  on complex / challenging technical projects

• Exposure to layered solutions and designs, diverse technical configurations, multiple technologies and processing environments.

• In-depth knowledge in software engineering languages and tools; proficient in new and emerging technologies.

• Extensive knowledge of all components of technical architecture.

• In-depth understanding of business operations, objectives and strategies including but not limited to, insurance industry, financial services, global business and technology trends.

• Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.
