Product Design Engineer

Reactive Recruitment are seeking to recruit a Product Design Engineer to join a leading Global Manufacturer at their state of the art facility in Greater Belfast .

 

The post holder will be responsible for the following duties:

·         Meeting with clients, suppliers and other internal departments to interpret their needs and establish the design brief, including the concept, performance and production criteria.

·         Perform preliminary and detailed concept investigation. Includes research, technical feasibility studies, cost estimates and manufacturing processes in support of new product design.

·         Responsible for the translation of design inputs into new product designs that satisfy the requirements of product performance, manufacturability, quality and regulatory compliance.

·         Work individually and as part of a team to develop component designs, including conceptual sketches, fully dimensioned CAD models, material selection fit for use, and finite element simulation.

·         Lead design technical reviews, risk analysis and design related FMEA sessions on assigned project(s)with multi-disciplined teams, and participate in peer reviews/ technical review and assistance for other projects and team members.

·         Quickly identify key technical challenges and potential resolutions to these.

·         Gain estimations and negotiate as necessary.

·         Independently plan and execute quality / functional testing of development solutions, analyse results, draw conclusions and report recommendations. This includes the evaluation of materials, prototypes and components, both by simulation and physical hands on testing.

·         Making samples or working models by hand,co-ordinate rapid prototyping, or manage the external manufacture of prototype tooling.  

·         Continually researching materials, processes, IP and market requirements.

 

It is essential the successful candidate is able to demonstrate the following:

·         BEng in Mechanical Engineering / Product Design Engineering or other relevant discipline.

·         Minimum 2 years product design experience, ideally in the plastic injection moulding industry but not essential.

·         Experienced 3D & 2D CAD user (preferably Solidworks).

·         Familiarity with finite element analysis tools is beneficial but not essential.

·         Understanding of common manufacturing and rapid prototyping processes for plastic components, adapting the designs for manufacture, and basic understanding of cost implications associated with different processes.

·         Competent sketching ability, able to express construction of products with ease.

·         Able to support design concepts with appropriate research material.

·         Ability to analyse data using appropriate analytical techniques.

·         A high degree of technical knowledge balanced with creative ability and a hands-on approach.

·         Effective project management skills, working on several projects at once, and the ability to develop realistic but challenging project development schedules and to progress and monitor tasks within own workload and that of others. Proven ability to meet tight deadlines with a determination to achieve a positive end result.
