Lead Java Engineer (Agile) – Full product roadmap

VANRATH IT is please to be working with one of the most impressive Belfast City Centre based Development Centres. They are currently seeking a Lead Java Engineer to join a high-performing team within the business – the team has full responsibility for the framework that underpins the firm’s complex global website, as well as developing a range of trading and post-trading solutions. This is a role with real variety AND ownership.

Responsibilities:

- Lead the team in building consensus on detailed design and architecture plans for complex, large scale efforts
- Apply expert knowledge of language, RDBMS and middleware technologies in independently designing and developing key complex services
- Lead code reviews, proactively identifying and mitigating potential issues and defects.
- Play a lead role in preliminary story review, providing constructive feedback and input on both work effort estimation as well as architecture/design improvements
- Play a key role in facilitating the decision making process if the team is at odds over conflicting design proposals
- Drive continuous improvement efforts by identifying and championing practical means of reducing time to market while maintaining high quality products (i.e. – process improvements/automation opportunities

The Ideal Person:

Essential

- 6-10 years of experience as a Java Software Engineer (with 2-4 years experience in a lead role)
- Strong core Java development skills (preferably balanced in both front end and server side skills)
- Expertise in Object Oriented Design and Patterns
- Expertise in Spring, Hibernate, JQuery and AJAX
- Strong RDBMS skills
- Agile exposure

Desirable
- Experience with HTML5, AngularJS, ExtJS
- Prior experience working in financial services/exchange space
- Knowledge of derivatives, pricing, valuation, and margin methodologies
- Prior experience using Confluence, JIRA, or other Atlassian tools
