In House Lawyer

Hays Legal are recruiting on behalf of their client, a leading Magic Circle Law Firm, for a solicitor with 1 – 3 years’ post-qualification experience in corporate or commercial work to join the firm’s Business Protection Unit (BPU) on a fixed term 12 month contract. The BPU develops policy and otherwise advises on regulatory, compliance and risk matters that might affect the interests or reputation of the Firm or it’s people. Key Responsibilities of the Role

To assist with all aspects of the work of the BPU including:
Advising the firm’s procurement and support departments on matters such as supplier and other third party contracts, confidentiality, data protection and intellectual property rights;
Advising the firm on issues relating to, and assisting with the administration of, the corporate group structure, including company secretarial work and drafting intra-group agreements;
Drafting and updating risk and compliance policies and advising fee-earners and other staff on their application; and
Otherwise assisting with advising on the firm€™s regulatory and compliance obligations and risk management.

Skills and Experience
Essential

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

Qualified lawyer with 1 – 3 years€™ post-qualification experience;
Experience of advising on a range of corporate and/or commercial matters and drafting related documentation (e.g. high value commercial contracts and/or corporate documentation such as share/ business purchase documentation, shareholder agreements, joint venture agreements etc.);
Excellent communication skills at all levels, including liaising with clients and partners;
A proven ability to work independently and proactively and take the lead in driving projects forward to completion;
Self-motivation and ability to manage new and varied challenges;
Excellent attention to detail; and
Collaborative approach and ability to work well in a small team.

Desirable

Experience of working in an international law firm and/or advising on cross-border transactions.
Familiarity with company secretarial requirements.
Familiarity with data protection legislation and issues.
Knowledge and experience of regulatory, compliance and professional conduct issues.
