Disability Assessor – Londonderry

Capita has been awarded a managed service contract by the Department for Social Development (DSD) for the provision of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) Assessment Service in Northern Ireland.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) will replace Disability Living Allowance for working age customers (age 16-64) – these changes were agreed as part of the Welfare Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 2015. This contract will see Capita deliver the assessment service for all PIP claims.

About the role

Capita in Northern Ireland is currently looking for Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Nurses, Paramedics and Doctors to join their expanding team on a full time or part time permanent basis as Disability Assessors.

As a PIP Disability Assessor you will undertake a face to face consultation in either the customer’s home or one of our consultation centres.

You will need to take into account all of the information presented including any supporting evidence (e.g. the customer’s completed questionnaire and information from GPs or other health professionals) and then carry out a face to face consultation in a professional manner. You may also be required to complete paper based assessments that do not require you to meet with customers face to face.

Once you have gathered all the necessary information you will complete a structured evidence based report for DSD.

This report will contain a detailed history of the customer’s condition(s) including information gathered on their current medication and treatment the functional impact of their health condition or impairment and your opinion on the impact this has on their daily living and mobility.

You will provide a full justification explaining how you came to these conclusions from the evidence gathered and define the probable timescales over which a health condition or impairment may affect the customer. Therefore you will also give your recommendation of when it would be appropriate to review the customer’s circumstances again.

About you

With our 4 week intensive training course, together with continued support from a mentor, we will teach you all you need to know and fully support you throughout your role. However, to be considered for this opportunity you must be able demonstrate the following to apply:
•At least 2 years of UK based post-registration experience as a Nurse (RGN/RMN), Occupational Therapist (OT), Physiotherapist, Paramedic or Doctor with an active, clean licence to practice.
•Evidence of your UK registered license to practice with the NMC / HCPC / GMC
•A positive attitude and friendly, professional manner with the ability to work both as part of a team and on your own initiative
•Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential to ensure you can converse directly with claimants and transfer complex information into a legible, concise report
•Excellent IT skills
•Ability to work under pressure, and be flexible and adaptable in your approach
•A full, clean UK driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Contractor Working Hours: Flexible (minimum of 2.5 days a week) up to £95 per report plus £100 per day while training (expenses not included)
